HMRC Task Forces to Focus on SW Motor Traders and Restaurants

We’ve recently learned that motor traders and restaurant owners in the South West are to be targeted by new HMRC task forces specifically created to collect tax payments.

There are twelve of these task forces and they are determined to collect millions of pounds of unpaid taxes. So fat they have collected extra tax, fines and interest totalling more than £50 million.

Andy Richens, the technical tax director at Bishop Fleming, says: “South West motor traders and restaurant owners can now expect a pre-arranged visit and review of their business records.

“These HMRC task forces are specialist teams, targeting tax evaders by undertaking intensive spot-check investigations to examine business records.

“Even businesses that have nothing to hide can find that this process takes up a huge amount of time and professional fees. That can be massively reduced by taking out the type of tax-investigation insurance policy that firms like Bishop Fleming provide.”

The HMRC task force initiative is part of the government’s plan to crack down on tax evasion.

Exchequer Secretary, David Gauke, said: “We have made it clear that we will not tolerate tax evasion – everyone needs to pay the taxes they owe in full.

“We are determined to crack down on the minority who break the rules. It is not fair that, at a time when most hard-working people are paying the right tax, others are trying to get out of paying what they should.”

When these situations arise we work expediently with our clients to resolve any problems at the earliest possible time.

We offer fee protection for when these problems arise, basically you pay a premium and all your fees are covered should you encounter such problems. Call us on 01803 500 500 if you have any issues/questions about this matter or our fee protection offer.
